With features such as standard Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, available X-MODE® with Hill Descent Control, and a standard 8.7 inches of ground clearance; the Subaru Crosstrek has been a favorite model among our Tulsa-area Subaru customers. The Crosstrek is well suited to take on roads that others can’t. However, even with all its capabilities, there has been one area of concern that we've heard from multiple Crosstrek shoppers - engine power.
The current 2020 Subaru Crosstrek is fitted with a 2.0-liter engine that produces 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. With its current engine, the Crosstrek trails behind other models in Subaru's line-up. That's all about to change. Automotive News is reporting that Subaru plans to equip the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek with a 2.5-liter engine option.
Tom Doll, CEO of Subaru of America, made the big announcement at the 2020 NADA Show, in Las Vegas. In the report, from Automotive News, Doll is reported as saying, "One of the things that our customers were telling us about the Crosstrek was it was maybe a little underpowered with the 2.0-liter engine. Well, the 2.5-liter engine will solve that problem."
While not confirmed, it's believed that the 2.5-liter engine planned for the 2021 Crosstrek will be the same [or very similar] to the engine that can already be found on the 2020 Subaru Forester, 2020 Subaru Outback, and 2020 Subaru Legacy. That 2.5-liter engine produces 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque.
Doll did not say when the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek will be available for sale; however, he did expand upon trim levels. According to Doll, the new 2.5-liter engine will only be available on the 2021 Crosstrek Limited trim and a new 2021 Crosstrek Sport trim.
Ferguson Subaru is eager to bring the upcoming 2021 Subaru Crosstrek to Tulsa, Oklahoma. We know our Tulsa-area shoppers will appreciate the increase in engine power.
