New Record In The Books - Pastrana & Custom WRX STI Set New Mt. Washington Hillclimb Record

Travis Pastrana has set a new hillclimb record, racing to the peak of Mt. Washington, in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Clocking in a time of 5 minutes, 28.67 seconds, Travis Pastrana beat the previous Mt. Washington Hillclimb record by 16.05 seconds.

The Mt. Washington Hillclimb, traditionally held every three years, is one of the most challenging motorsport events in the United States and the oldest hillclimb in North America. The path up the tallest mountain on the East Coast is narrow, steep and treacherous. The course is famous for its unpredictable weather and features a mixed-surface road, forcing drivers to contend with grip levels that shift suddenly from tarmac to gravel and back again in the middle of the climb. With an average grade of 12% and an uneven surface bounded by serious drops above the treeline.

Mr. Pastrana completed this awe-inspiring achievement behind the wheel of his custom-built Subaru Gymkhana 2020 WRX STI - known as the Airslayer. The highly-developed Subaru Airslayer WRX STI is powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter flat-four that makes 862 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. Along with a significant power bump, major suspension advancements and an ultra-light curb weight, the Airslayer was tailor-made for the wide-open mentality of hillclimbs.

Towards the end of the video, after crossing the finish-line, Travis is heard saying, "this thing's a beast!" Well, Mr. Pastrana, the Airslayer WRX STI maybe a beast, but as are you! Pastrana had more things to say about the incredible machine, "Coming off a second-place finish at Goodwood I really wanted to set a new record here to show what the car could do in the right environment...So much fun and I can’t wait to do it again next time!”

Pastrana is currently taking his Gymkhana 2020 WRX STI on the "Airslayer Global Takeover tour." The next stop for the Airslayer STI will be at the Subaru Wicked Big Meet - the largest Subaru enthusiast festival in the world - help on September 12, 2021, at the Stafford Motor Speedway, in Stafford Springs, Connecticut. Other scheduled events include Subiefest California and the Los Angeles Auto Show.
